In 2008 Mayor Buddy Dyer and the City of Orlando Council implemented the Orlando Main Streets program. Orlando Main Streets serves as an economic backbone for Commercial Districts within city limits and operates under the nationally accredited Main Street AmericaTM program. As a Main Street AmericaTM Affiliate, City District, Inc. is part of a network of more than 1,200 neighborhoods and communities that share a commitment to creating high-quality places and building stronger communities through preservation-based economic development. Each Orlando Main Streets district operates as an individual organization under the Orlando Main Streets program and follows a tried and true four point approach to community revitalization. Orlando Main Street Districts receive intensive training, guidance, and technical support to provide economic support and development, increase community connection, and create a thriving and healthy community.
